Unlocking the Future: Why Your Child Shouldn’t Miss the “Code and Culture Initiatives” this June
In today’s fast-paced, digital world, children and young people need more than just academic knowledge, they need cultural grounding, digital skills, and a sense of belonging. That’s why The Elizabeth Solomon’s House is proud to introduce a unique initiative designed to nurture both mind and heritage: “Code and Culture Initiatives”. the first of its kind in the UK.
This free monthly Sunday programme, launching on June 29, 2025, in Derby, offers a vibrant and inclusive space where children aged 6–14 can explore two key areas of development; language and tech literacy. This event is more than just an afternoon class; it’s an investment in your child’s future.
From 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, children aged 6–14 would immerse themselves in the Yoruba Language Class, a golden opportunity to connect with African roots, learn a rich language, and appreciate cultural identity. This is more than just language, it’s about storytelling, values, and pride in heritage. Remember, a river that forget its source will dry up someday.
Following that, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, children aged 8–14 will participate in a Coding Class, designed to equip them with 21st-century tech skills. From basic programming to problem-solving and creative thinking, this session opens doors to future career opportunities and confidence in digital environments that will catch them young and arouse their curiosity for the ever-evolving tech world ahead.
Interestingly, the beauty of the “Code and Culture Initiatives” lies not only in its content but in its community impact. It gives parents peace of mind knowing their children are engaged in meaningful, educational activities. It fosters intergenerational dialogue around culture and technology. And it strengthens community ties by bringing together families, volunteers, and mentors in one shared space.
This event will be held at the Community Room, Churchside Walk, Stockbrook St, Derby DE22 3WL, this initiative is completely free, thanks to generous support from the Community Fund. Whether you’re a parent looking to enrich your child’s weekend or a community member passionate about youth development, this is your chance to be part of something inspiring.
